Tessa has been the MP for the Wells and Mendip Hills constituency since July 2024. She is a member of the Justice Select Committee and is passionate about serving her home area with energy, experience and deep care for people.

Tessa was the Member of Parliament for Wells from 2010 – 2015, winning the seat from the Conservatives and ending their 87-year rule.  During her previous term as MP, she co-ordinated the campaign to keep the Bishop of Bath & Wells in the Bishop’s Palace and secured £51m in funding for cancer equipment for hospitals in the South West. 

A prolific community campaigner, Tessa is known for listening actively to locals and has an outstanding reputation and proven track record - from campaigning to keep our rivers, streams and sea clean, to standing up for ME sufferers.

Tessa is a fierce champion of her ‘patch’ and during her first term in Parliament got the record for holding the most surgeries of any MPs, 704.  So far, during this Parliament, she has held well over 150 surgeries.  

An advocate for transparency in public life, Tessa declares any gifts sent or given to her, and claims minimal expenses. 

Tessa has lived in this area for many years, and is committed to working hard for all constituents.
